Well, hi
It's a new year. I still haven't broken my new years promise which was whine less and be nicer to everyone.
I have, indeed, whined less. And I've smiled to people even if they didn't smile back. Everyone should try that every now and then. Surprisingly you feel better if one out of the 200 people you smiled at smiles back.
It's still an awesome winter even though it was two days above zero (centigrade). It's been snowy, cold and awesome. I've been out more this winter than last year combined (and I'm not exaggerating).
We went to see the fireworks on new years eve. It was sad that the whole firework show given by the town was covered in low hanging clouds.. or mist.. or something. It was bizarre, the red, green, blue and golden flashes inside the mist thing.
I still don't have a job. I've been looking, been interviewed, but I guess I'm not good enough. I have a strategy, though. I'm going to look fabulous the next time. I heard some men hire girls for their looks, not how much work experience or education they have. That's my strategy. I'm onto it. I've lost 8 kilos since I made that decision. I still look kind of cute (and I know I've looked hot at one point since I got hired for two jobs by men that proved to be quite the old perverts).
Oh and I've lost the eight kilos by losing everything that says 'light' from my diet. Apparently you do need whole milk and actual fats to stay fit. You don't eat as much as you've being nourished with less... If you want to lose weight: Lose all that says "light".. I've already dropped all energy drinks since my last toothy experience and a couple more after that. Of course it means I don't get to drink sugary juice or cola. (I do have a cola day. I can drink cola on Fridays. I also have a karkkipäivä (Finnish kids usually have one day a week they can eat candy). That's why our teeth are among the best in world. I'm not sure if I remembered to tell about the last of my wisdom teeth that was removed last autumn. Removing that caused a whole jawbone infection. Jesus Christ the pain... I was basically on horse tranquilizer and antibiotics. I'm glad I don't have to do that ever again. Oh and I now know I have an extra tooth growing above my teeth. It's awesome. I have to upload the röntgen image sometime. Now I'm too lazy.
I must have done something really mean in my previous life for getting this much shit on this one. Well, actually, according to one fortune teller, in my past life I was a chick (that got eaten), before that I was a sailor that was working on a slave ship from Congo to New Amsterdam or something - and before that I was a witch and I'm responsible for poisoning three people. I guess being a chicken once paid all my previous sins and now I'm only getting the minor stuff. Like having mostly shitty life. And J is my price for making this life (after the chicken part) mostly law-abiding.
We've been planning a trip to Sweden and Norway next summer. We, or J, is going to drive the whole 3000 kilometers in seven days. It's going to be hell. I hope the car AC dies or something. I get to visit the world's northernmost IKEA in Haparanda, Sweden. And I get to show J what it looks like in the North. Show him why I love Lapland (no matter if it's Finnish, Swedish or Norwegian Lapland or all of them). I hope he likes it. The scenery up their is something you either love or hate.
First I wanted to go to this awesome little place called "Å i Lofoten". It's a small old fishing village (with all new houses) that rents 'rorbuer' or fishing cabins. I checked it on Google Maps Street View and the scenery was so awesome I instantly knew that's the place I want to go to. Then I found out they charge over 1050 NOK (It's 135€) a night. In a cabin you a) can't get linen for (they charge extra), b) you need to clean the cabin yourself and c) no breakfast. You can get a business class hotel room in Helsinki city for one night with that price - with continental breakfast, swimming pool and a sauna. Lofoten is an experience I can easily pass if two nights there eat almost half of our hotel budget. In Finland, we get two nights with that price in a real hotel room with breakfast and in Sweden, we get two nights and a boat trip for that price. So we changed our plan, we're going to leave Lofoten i Norge for good and just go by and spend the money on a eco whale safari. I don't know about the eco stuff more than they don't roar the engines around the whales. I'd rather go see live whale tails once in my life than pay for too much for a small cabin you have to clean up yourself. I knew Norway was expensive but that expensive. But I heard they get good wages for basically being lazy workers. By the way, I've been learning Norwegian for a few days now. I heard they hate Finns so we need to sound at least Swedish. I'm so glad I can do "sjungande svenska" or 'flowing' Swedish.. It's easier to learn Norwegian when you already know Swedish. But some of the words.. my favorites so far are 'drosje' for taxi and 'sykehus' for hospital - I like the way they sound when you pronounce them with near correct accent.
Oh and I'm so going to work in Norway. After we go check it and if I can master the language there. Of course J will get a job, he's so good at what he does. I don't mind being the mailman. The goddamn mailman earns almost 19€/h. It's a shitload more than here. I heard they are quite the language racists, though, so you really need to speak the language if trying to get a job. In Norway, you pay less taxes, earn more, have more vacation (darned oil money, it's the oil..), they actually encourage having kids.. and they have the most awesome sceneries in the world.. It's my country. The people I'm not so sure of.
... and more about the language. I know I'm good. I speak nearly perfect Canadian accent (yeah, they do have an accent) English, I can speak proper, genuine Swedish.. when I'm not in the country and around people who speak it themselves. When I'm amongst the native speakers I go insecure, tackle with words. Except for when I'm drunk. And I haven't been drunk for a while now.
I better finish this before it turn out to be a goddamn novel.
When people were made, there were some pieces left - enough to make one more person. That's me. I'm leftovers.

"When in Rome, do as the Romans do"
Every time we travel somewhere we are warned not to do certain things. Such as show leg in public when visiting certain Islamic countries, show the bottoms of our feet to someone.. When we move to Egypt, we keep ourselves from breaking their laws and insulting their beliefs... In Saudi-Arabia, I would not dare show skin below my neck.
My country has been accepting immigrants in a rather minimal amount. We don't get much of the trouble as do countries like the UK, Sweden or France.. My country has to build mosques in order to help refugees to cohabilitate to the society (isn't that the way they are taught to keep to themselves instead of getting to know their new surroundings)... The immigrants who are coming here demand more monetary support, more places for them to hang out, more understanding, more.. more and more.. They are fed by taxpayers, their clothes are paid by taxpayers, their children are educated and then they go back to their own country. I reckon that's stealing. They get everything and give nothing in return. At least they should have the decency to try living here after they are given a life.
And we are blamed to be racist, stupid and unforgiving nation. In my country, most of the refugees drive better cars then half of the nation and they wear designer clothes. Let's face it, it's not the poorest and the ones most in danger who come here, since they wouldn't have any money to buy their flight in.. Still they demand... because they have "suffered". What, a flight here and the time bureucracy takes?
What about the crimes then? At one point, 46% of the refugees had committed a crime of some sort, most of them being stealing.. That's a big deal in a country where most of the crimes are committed by foreigners. And what do they get for committing crimes? A pat on the head and subtle "No, that's a bad boy"..
If it's true that homo sapiens sapiens came from africa, how come we are feeding them? How come our doctors are the best ones? How come we police the world? They have had more time to evolve, to make things, to invent things and still it's this way?
Yes, I'm a racist. But hold that anger of yours.. I want to explain myself.. I'm not a racist in the crude meaning of the word. My best friend was of korean descent. I had the biggest crush ever on an African born boy. The Palestinian boy in our school was the nicest ever.. Those days I was ashamed for the ones who were called racist. Until I realized what was really going on and how many things are *bleeped* up in the world..
My racism doesn't go to the extremes, though. I do approve taking in refugees. I do approve refugees being taught their own languages at our school. I do approve working or studying refugees who at least TRY to get into the society. That's not racism.
Here's the racist part: I do not approve crime committing, lazy, cheating, wife-beating dogs. I don't want them in my county and would send them back without a thought. But because of organizations such as Amnesty, they are kept here.
War is a good excuse to do stuff. "I come from the war zone I must be understood" When my country was in war, the people who fled were doing shitty jobs, trying not to step on anyone's toes and doing what they were told to do because they understood it's a different country and their ways must be respected... Most of them have grandchildren who don't know a word of their grandparents language. Most of them got education in their new country and stayed there as tax payers - as a part of the society..
So how did I become a racist?
The change in me started happening when I happened to witness three somali boys attacking an old woman when I was 13. Adding, hearing two Iraqi guys conversing on what they could do to me because I'm a white, christian born woman thus worth nothing when I was 16. Or that turkish man offered a sum of money worth 100 euros to buy me for a night when I was visiting Turkey in 1994.. Or the fact that not having sex with a somali guy after he bought me a drink gave him right to call me a whore. My dislike over middle-Easterns rose, after reading books like Sold!, The Princess (Trilogy) etc. The last bit was seeing the movie Black Hawk Down. Though I realized it was just a movie and probably a bit one-sided story, I'll never forget the anger I felt that day walking out of the theatre. Or currently, hearing gay people being hung because of a misspelled line of code in their DNA.
Tell me.. why could a Roman woman in 100AC have a right to inherit her fortune, have a place in the society and her opinions heard and appreciated when an English woman didn't have the right to her own body in 1779? Or how did the Romans appreaciate and teach their children honest, truthful and able citizens without constant beating, but the English children didn't have value more than a dog sometimes in the 1700?

My Dream Holiday Spot & Weird Thinking
Don't open the links unless you really want to see the photos. As they belong to someone else than me (I wish I could be there..)
My Dream Holiday Spot would be here.
If you really, really, really think about it, doesn't it make you feel unworthy and small to know that all the stones you see, have been here thousands of years before you and will continue to be after you? Some turtles outlive two humans. Cockroaches are the likely survivors of nuclear war.
The journey to Proxima Centauri (Aka Alpha Centauri C) - the nearest star outside our solar system - would take 160 000 years using the Space Shuttle. In comparison, in 1997 Paleontologists found the so-far oldest fossilized remains of modern humans, the portions of skulls belonging to people who lived 160,000 years ago. Proxima Centauri can't even theoretically support life. The closest sun-like planet is Alpha in the Centauri Triple-Starlet and it's a bit older than ours and if it had an Earth-like planet hanging around it, they'd be at least million years ahead of us in life (or in destruction). This is a little table I found circling in the intahweb:

What if we end up destroying what we have here? Well, we always have Mars.
It will take at least three years to reach Mars. Mercury is close to Sun, but hey, at least it's not made of gas. The probe sent to Mercury will have to travel for over six years. Think back six years.
Look at this and feel insignificant: How beautiful.

Flow
Today I decided that I want to go to Santorini. That's somewhere in the mediterranean sea - in Greece - I think. Why Santorini? Ever since I started thinking as a child and understood what it feels like when something takes "your breath away", I have loved four things above everything: sunsets, sea, thunder and volcanoes. You can get three of those in Santorini - and if lucky, thunder too. I saw a picture of white and putty houses with blue rooftops, bare ground... I think that's the place I ought to see once in my life. So, Santorini, you're calling me, but I can answer that call no sooner than after a few years of saving money and dieting. But I promise to myself I'll be there one day.
If there's someone who'd take me there, please give me a call. But you'd have to be at least 5ft9 and look like Ewan McGregor or Colin Farrel.
It's spring. Cold, but it's spring. And spring is showing it's pretty face under the snow. All the dog poop and litter. How nice.
Another thing that's in my mind is the fact that everyone around me seems to be more or less pregnant. I just see them everywhere - walking with their cute little bellies.. haha! Don't get me wrong! That doesn't do the trick for me. I'm not like "aaw", but more like "eew".. I hate it when they turn inwards and think that everyone else is as excited as they are. It's quite the opposite to me, I can't stand kids yelling everywhere, crying, demanding. You have kids and your life is ruined. And what a few pregnancies do to a woman! They lose their mind, their world becomes kids-centered and they go monsterous on their men. One pregnant friend of mine once said I'm being selfish when I don't want children and cannot join her happiness. I can't help it. I see children as a burden to their parents - so I'm pretty sure I will never have kids. There are many reasons but I think the real reason is I that believe I will become the same as my mother. I believe I could never hit or hurt anything that is a part of me, but I can't be sure. My sister is doing well and has passed her genes (and my genes as well) forward. Maybe that's the way it ought to be. And besides, here I am, 25 and not a single marriage proposal. My time will soon be over - because who would have kids when over 30, one would be too old to understand them as they grow up. I have so many plans, so many things to do before I'm too old and the "kids" thing isn't even on that list right now. I wish I'd grow up and want a suburb house, SUV and four kids.
I applied to medschool this spring.
Wishful thinking, I can hardly manage division.
